It's a Cold April Day, But That Isn't Stopping the Prehistoric Dinosaur Chasers

posted on 04/18/2009
Good morning to all!!!!

Welcome to another edition of the Wigwam Fisherman’s Blog. Saturday April 18, 2009, will bring cold weather and maybe a couple snow flakes to our little piece of heaven in northern Minnesota we call Lake of the Woods, but it isn’t stopping those Sturgeon enthusiasts today. At 7 am this morning when I rounded the corner at Wheelers Point on the way to the Wigwam, which I heard was thumping last night by the way; I couldn’t believe the amount of vehicles that were at the public access ramp. There must have been about 60 trucks with trailers lined up and they were putting in one right after another, it was as if they were on an assembly line back at an auto plant back in Michigan. It’s a wonderful site to see.

The word on the street is; Rainy River is still very muddy and cold, which only can mean one thing, you aren’t going to be catching the fish in Rainy River. Like clock work the boats are swarming out in front of the Wigwam Resort in Four Mile Bay. After speaking with the “prehistoric dinosaur” chasers as they entered the Wigwam after a long fruitful day of fishing, they all are catching fish and as stated yesterday there is some size to these suckers. People are claiming that they are catching plenty of 40”-50” and a couple 60”. The common theme is that everyone is catching fish and having a blast!

The Wigwam update; we are starting to book more and more people for next years Sturgeon Excursion and winter ice fishing already, this is coupled with the frenzy of phone calls for this coming summer season. We are going to be providing a different type of service for years to come and the word is out! We want you to have the best experience possible while you stay with us. Whether you’re looking a fun time or just a relaxing vacation, along with the best fresh water fishing in the world, in my opinion, the Wigwam Resort is the place to stay on Lake of the Woods. Please give myself or our knowledgeable staff a call at (800) 448-9260 to put together your vacation to paradise, without having to even pull out your passport. Come experience our little piece of paradise we like to call the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.

As I was surfing the web the other day I came across a great quote that I have to share with you, and from my law school days, I know that everyone may interpret the same statement in their own way, so as I share this with you, remember this is strictly my opinion, it will tie back to the “People are claiming” sentence in the second paragraph and it should make sense. “…of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy”, William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954. How I interpret this is; I think that fisherman don’t lie about the fish they catch, but they may exaggerate about to how big the fish they catch actually is. Just my two cents…I thought that was an interesting quote and just wanted to share it with you today.

My shout out today will go to some of my old roommates from college. Colin Muldoon, Derek Crimin and Brian McCullough…this job has given me a reason to be able to connect with some old friends, and hopefully, I will be able to take them fishing in the near future…I am very grateful to be able to reconnect. To all of you, I miss you guys and can’t wait to be able to see you guys someday in the near future. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of something crazy that happened at the “Trailer” and that always puts a smile on my face. Each was an excellent hockey player, but each has become an excellent man. I wish you and your families all the best…now get up here so I can take you fishing and we can reminisce about our college years…”prove your self”!

Happy fishing to all, and to all a good day!
