Slab Hunting

posted on 04/29/2009
Early this morning me, my pops, and two dogs jumped on 35E North and set off to Danbury, Wisconsin for the second time in under a week. We had a few things that needed to be done up at the cabin so we decided to leave early in the morning and do some fishing while we were up there and make a day of it. After loading up the boat with our rods, tackle, and dogs, we got out on the water around 8:30 AM or so.
We started out by trying a few spots where the Crappies were biting last weekend. The crappie bite was slow and light. After trying 3 or 4 spots, we managed to boat only 3 decent size crappies to throw in the livewell.
We were both getting kind of hungry from not eating breakfast so we motored back to the cabin and ate lunch. About an hour or so later, we set back out onto the 157 acre lake destined to find a school of crappies. We tried another spot (where we had a little success at last weekend) and on my first cast my bobber went down and I set the hook on our 4th keeper. We dropped anchor and stayed put. The next hour and a half was spent hammering crappies!! We boated some slabs too!
The rain started to come down a bit and our rain gear was back at the cabin (go figure tongue smiley ) so knowing we still had an hour and a half drive back home to the cities, a full livewell (which we still needed to fillet) and with the dogs in mind, we pulled anchor, fired up the Merc, and set off back to the cabin.

Pulling up to our dock we let the wet dogs get off first, then we proceeded to unload the boat and the livewell.
Me and my dad then pulled our boat from the lake and covered it. Then we threw on our rain gear, stepped out into the rain, and began to clean our catch.
Our little lake in Western Wisconsin produces yet again!!
