Hey Msachs,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Bucket mouths spawn when the temp get above 55 degrees, but the best time to fish 'em is the prespawn, about when the water hits 45. The problem here in MN is the prespawn is almost always over before the bass opener. This year may be different though, considering the late spring we are having.

Smallies are best in when the water hits 45 or more. This is their prespawn too. They will tend to be deeper then the bucketmouths, though.

And yes... I ocassionally fish for trout, usually up North on the Baptism or some of the trout lakes up that way.

Thanks Webdude, When we were there last year there was also a huge Mayfly hatch (I think it was mayflies) But almost every catch was spitting them up. So i dont know if that was helping to fill thier bellies or not.

We definately want to find some trout, because we have some new lures designed that we came up with here in PA. We want to give them a shot up your way!

If u get a chance check them out, www.sachsfishing.com

I was perusing some old threads and found this. I posted it back in 2005. I still feel the same, though some things have changed...

My kids birthday has passed... he is now 17.

My boat still fits in my garage and I still feel like a nut just sitting in it.

I am still pulling out my manuals.

I am still going through my rods and reels.

I am still taking stock of my tackle.

Hockey practice and piano lessons are over now... the kids are growing up.

The wife bought me another Shimano reel and another St. Croix rod... NICE!

A month away, folks!

A new Shimano on a St. Croix? Your wife sounds awesome! smile smiley

I start a sort of Spring break this week and I'm hoping to get a lot of prep work done. Need to lube all my reels and probably will re-spool most too. I got a good deal on a big box of Gamakatsu's over the winter and plan to swap out a ton of trebles. Then I'll sharpen all my buzz and spinnerbait hooks.

I'm also going to toss a lot of soft plastic this year. I've thought about filling a few of those big zip-lock bags and giving them to kids I see fishing off piers. Either way, I need to get the unused stuff out of the garage to make some room to get what I really want to get too.

I also have a battery that won't keep a charge. That was a bummer to see. Will need to replace that when I can.

She is awsome... though I mis-spoke. This is the first time she has bought me a Shimano and a St. Croix.

Holy Crap! I totally forgot about these posts. I am usually on the ball when it comes to the opener... Has anything changed for me? Not really, it's just...

My boys birthday has passed... he is now 18.

My girls are now 16, 25 and 28 (sorry, I am dating myself here).

My boat still fits in my garage and I still feel like a nut just sitting in it. Yes... I do still sit in it.

I am still pulling out my manuals.

I am still going through my rods and reels and adding new line.

I am still taking stock of my tackle but I have yet to go out and stock up with my Birthday money smile smiley

The young ones sure are growing up.

The wife bought me a new GPS with a lake chip for Christmas... VERY NICE! I have been all around on lakes from my living room cool smiley Can't wait to put it to good use. I even changed the icon to a boat even though I have been using it in the truck smile smiley

A little over a month away, folks! I hope dooner can make it up from Florida... he usually does. AND I am looking forward to running into all my pals up at the home lake grin smiley
