Given this stands location there isn't much to dispute. Its pretty squarely in the middle of the property. If the stands owner was guessing at the property line he guessed very poorly.

I'll try to track down the landowner and see what he wants me to do with it. No matter what I think I'll wait until late in the season before I do anything with it. We've got stands set up not far away so I don't want to take the guys stand down and risk retaliation on our gear. I'll probably put a note out there this weekend and then maybe set up a spare trail cam somewhere to keep an eye on the stand and see if anyone is hunting it.

Well another weekend is in the books. Hunted Saturday AM/PM and Sunday AM. Saturday evening I had a fair bit of action but nothing within shooting range, 40 yards and in the thick brush was the best it got.

I did take a walk sunday after I was hunting and marked the trespassers stand on my gps to show the landowner but he doesn't seem bothered by it so I'll leave it alone for now. I did put some branches on the seat so I can see if they get moved to determine if its still being use. The stand is over looking a small clearing where I found 3 fresh scrapes started. Also found a new rub on my access trail. I'm tempted to get a stand moved over to that area where the trespassers stand is. Maybe we can spend a morning looking at each other in the our stands.

Its starting to heat up out in the woods! With hopes your trespasser is not interfering during the weekdays. When is your next trip?

I'll likely be up Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th and then my only trip after that will be November 17th and 18th. My wife has a lot of travel for work coming up so I'll be home with the kids the rest of the time. No plans for a late season trip yet, I'm really hoping to avoid one if I can.

Its possible the trespasser is there on weekdays we'll see. I climbed up the stand for the first time last weekend and its a bit more wobbly and creaky than it looked from the ground so I'm not 100% convinced someone is hunting it. I know I wouldn't hunt it without firming it up a bit and trimming some branches that completely obscure anything to the left.

I did leave some branches on the seat so I can check on it next time I'm up to see if they've been moved. I also checked for any obvious signed of a trail in and couldn't find anything or any obvious sign of grass being heavily matted down by his feet at the base of the stand. Its possible that its an abandoned stand from a few years go or that it simply rarely gets hunted.

The area I hunt is 3 neighboring 10 acre properties and this one is the far southern property. I know the far northern one has an old stand and trail camera on it as well but the land owner is pretty sure it belongs to a guy that used to have permission to hunt back there but he has moved now and probably just forgot to remove his gear. I'll be going back there later this season to move that stand and check to see if the camera is still good and that will go into my arsenal of cameras.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. With hopes its just abandoned....

High winds the other night might play into this weekends hunt. I would bet there is lots of trees down in the woods.

When that wind came through the other night I was thinking to myself that I was glad I wasn't hunting. I hunted in wind similar to that a few years back and the only thing fun about it was the free carnival ride I got when my tree swayed back and forth. I didn't last too long that day considering even if a deer showed up I'd never have been able to hit it with how bad my tree was moving and how far the wind would have blown my arrow.

If I notice any change in the mystery stand next time I'm up I'll set up a camera on it so see if anyone shows up. last night I talked to my uncle who owns the middle property and he now suspects the stand might belong to someone who lives one or two properties down. If thats the case it sounds like they are all friendly and the landowner wouldn't have an issue with him being there. If thats the case him and I just need to talk to coordinate our hunting so we're not ruining things for each other. We'll see how it plays out, all part of the game I guess.

We lost a couple trees on our main trails with the wind. Oh well, extra work in the great outdoors!

I'm getting that itch!!!!

Last year, I had a big dominant buck rutting up a spot like he was pissed there were any other bucks on the planet! Early in October it was all tore up and you could smell the tarsal scent big time. Just before the season last year, you could smell it 100 yards away! In all my years of hunting, I'd never seen or smelled this kind of thing before. Then, last year we got 21 inches of snow over 3 days leading into the season. Couldn't effectively hunt that area being so far back. It just killed me! And I figured that buck wouldn't make the winter! Well guess what...I think he did! That spot is all tore up again, and his tarsal stink is already all over it! Same exact spot and this time it started in Sept! So I put a trail cam on it! I can't wait to see what pic's come off it!

I then made a couple of trails and ground blinds to take advantage of the area regardless of the winds!

I'm headed back up this Sunday to check things over, and do more woods work.

Always more exciting when you know something big is roaming your area. The last time I was up I saw an area starting to get torn up. At least 3-4 fresh scrapes started all within 30-40 yards of each other along a main trail. I have yet to see anything big on any of my cams but I've seen some very nice deer on cam in years past. This year has been an anomaly so far with a ton of young bucks, a handful of does, and no mature bucks.

I'll be back up next week to give it another shot.

We are close to the RUT! They will travel and you always have a "chance".
