Modernizing the site is probably needed if growth is the goal. This forum tends to operate a little differently than most I've been on and that may turn people off as they usually like to stick with things that feel familiar and they don't want to learn a new format. A new look may also help us lure existing users to start posting again.

Now let me play devils advocate for a minute now. I work in marketing and I've been apart of many website redesigns. I also am always working on engaging consumers and finding the best way to engage them and get them to respond. Its rarely quick and easy and its rarely free.

My concern with investing time and possibly money (if upgrades need to be made) is that the internet forum is a fading trend. Its relevance is long past prime as other more accessible options exist now.

If I was presented with this project at work I would likely pass on it as the investment is likely to exceed the return. Looking back at how often the forum was used over the last few years and given the fading interest in web forums its hard to see the potential for the site to rebound to a point that would justify the time and cost.

With all of that said here is my idea. I think once upon a time MFP had a facebook page. Why not look to move the focus away from the web forum and focus more on the facebook page? that would better align with current trends and where the growth is. Development time would also be minor and no hosting costs would be needed. It would still need someone running the show so WD would need to be up to that task. I can offer some help from time to time as I have some experience in it but I can't commit a lot of time.

The one thing I can probably do is if you want to update the look and feel of things I can work on a new logo that can be used for a FB profile image and I can also design a cover photo that works with the logo.

So far I have 1550 Likes. I mostly post just pictures there with an occasional post.

On another note, I could turn over the administration of the page to more than just myself. If we had multiple administrators all posting on the timeline, perhaps we could get something going on over there. We could use the forum here to keep abreast of any changes we would like to make. I try to post a pic or video at least a couple of times a week.

Also, all posts there are posted on Twitter as well, though I don't do much on that end.

Sorry for the delayed response... I also excepted a bigger and better job with my company and it puts me on the road quite often...

Congrats Web! Your going to be a great grandpa.

I upgraded to the Helix 9 last year! I love it!!!!!! I sold all my lowrance units because service was just impossible. First thing is a new map card and second is a Zero Data Card. Domino Dave is also a new owner of a Helix 10. The mapping features are awesome!!!

The site to me is the site. You most likely have an email list that you could send out and say "Hi" with?

I love you Dave but the "smelt" site drew that many people because there is no where else to go for that information. I spent a bit looking on facebook and there was nothing.... Give it time.

Well Nofish, this isn't work, right? This is for fun, and sharing, sometimes a little help, and connecting with folks that share a same passion.

Second, while I know that FB contributed a ton to the decline of blogs and forums, not all of us have a FB.

MFP does have a Twitter acc too, btw: @MyFishingPals

Some little birdie told me to get my ass on here and post something. Been a long time, I even forgot this site was here. I don't think I had posted anything since 2014, that shows you how long it's been.

So... Congrats 'Dude!

Yes the helix 10 si is a nice unit, I think you will like it.

Yes, I still fish regularly on the soft water... the Big Pond, Kab and Leech more often then not.

Okay, though I might forget on occasion, I will try to pick up a bit on the posting.

'Dude, I heard you got a place on the Pond... we should hook up sometime.

AND WTF on Mille Lacs?!?!? It would be nice to be able to keep some 'EYE's this year...
