I am surprised a guy who obviously is trying very hard to try and make himself out to be intelligent would use such a transparent and inane straw man argument.

"...feel free to NOT call the fire or police depts when your house is on fire or your property rights are threatened or violated. No sense in adding to your problems, right?"

Well played professor.

If the 'death tax' is lawful a fair then why is it not applied across the board? Certainly we all must owe a debt to society for each dollar that we earn and save which must be paid in full at our passing?

Hello Webdude. I have been meaning to get back, but I have been busy. I'll have to start posting about what is really important like fishing!

"I am surprised a guy who obviously is trying very hard to try and make himself out to be intelligent would use such a transparent and inane straw man argument."

Imagine your surprise if I actually used a strawman argument. My point, admittedly a simple one (live by the simplistic, die by it), is that a lot of conservatives tend to demonize govt until they need it. Reagan said, "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are - 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help," and instead of laughing at him, conservatives made him their icon and patron saint. Grover Norquist said he wants to shrink govt until it can be drowned in the bathtub and he's regarded as a deep thinker among conservatives. It's a mystery to me why so many conservatives don't seem to value intelligence when choosing their leaders.

As for my trying hard to seem intelligent, I aspire to pseudo-intellectualism. Perhaps you'd prefer me to grunt and mix in a few phrases like "absolute INCOMPITENCE"?

"If the 'death tax' is lawful a fair then why is it not applied across the board? Certainly we all must owe a debt to society for each dollar that we earn and save which must be paid in full at our passing?"

"Must be" is a misnomer but I have advocated in other forums (Anti-Strib, for one) that in the interests of fairness, the estate tax should be 100% for everyone. IIRC, according to one study, about $50 trillion dollars will be bequeathed by Americans in the next 50 years and our unfunded liabilities will approach that. If you have a better and fairer way to meet our obligations, I'm all ears.

I agree... fishing is MUCH more important... especially since we are all going to die in 2012, according to the Myan Calendar and Nostradamus.
