Posted: Sun Jan 21, 2007 3:20 pm Post subject: Ice catch-er's report 1-20 Big Sandy lake and pics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Headed up north for the day seeking some slabs. The bite was really slow, I have never seen such picky fish, they must be well fed, they are so fat! They are worth working for though, we didn't get any 2 pounders, but most were over a pound. I saw Keith out there, and got some more jigs, met Chris, "Bobber down" they had a pike on the ice. I had a pike come up and grab my jig, then my line went slack, I thought oh no, but reeled in, The jig was still there. All the fish were caught on The jig, couldn't get anything else to work. tried plasics, spoons, and a chubby darter too. I could get fish to lift up to 4 ft, but they wouldn't bite. Jack couldn't get them to lift so he just kept working the jig near the fish. II took home 5 fish, Jack got 10, so mabye the less movement was the key, I also found out towards the end he was using the pink and white jig, I had the black and yellow, don't know if that mattered though. Here are the pics!

Crappiekeith, on Big Sandy do you mark a lot of fish or is it one here and there? I understand they are tough to get to bite, I am just wondering if you sit on schools of fish and try to get fish to bite or if see one or two every 10 minutes or so and try to get one or two to bite every once in a while? On some lakes I fish there are fish constantly down there suspended or near bottom and you just have to coerce them into to biting. On other lakes I constantly jig and you see fish that just show up every once and a while, but I don't have fish below constantly even if I move around.

It sure is as alsways, but the ole codger can only hang on for so long.
We'll be back to fast & furious action within 4 or 5 weeks. Those last 3-4 weeks are some of most favorite times. Look at the date stamp on these. In the 3rd pick you can see water on the ice.
