Welll its that time of year again. We got the boat put away and I will now start getting all the houses and trucks ready for the up and coming season. We have all ready taken a few reservations for the up and coming season.
I have spent a little time deer hunting but way less then I should. The greeek arrowed a beatiful buck 2 weeks ago and all are hard worked payed off for him. He has also taken a few grouse over the last few weeks. I have taken 2 shots at ducks with my bow and also missed two grouse with my recurve.
Before you know it the ice will be frozen and a few will be pike fishing. There has been little to no body fishing the lake which seems normal here in the fall. Last time I was out I landed a nice keeper walleye but I had to head in.A spinner with a minnow in 6 feet of water was still the ticket and is always my go to set up here on red lake spring, summer or fall

Sweet we went over 10,000 hits what do I win? All kidding aside its nice to see theres still interest in red lake. I will do my best to keep everyone informed as the ice season gets under way. I still hace not decided if its worth chasing crappies anymore. The northshore has been the most consistant over the last 6 years and can be quite the chore getting there,I expect the walleye fishing to again be good from the fall netting surveys.
Looking forward to having Westwind cook us up some fresh fish again this winter as they have agreat deal plus I can not duplicate there batter.
At this time of year I have plenty to do as I get the houses ready and the trucks. When will I learn to get all this done before the cold sets in and the farmer I work for needs me. Oh well I guesss it keeps me busy. Last year I burned up the tranny in the red baron . I have the new rebuilt tranny and hope to be getting that in next week. Montana could use a new door as it looks tacky all damaged.
We will be chasing deer again this weekend before the rifle season.

If the wind does not pile the ice up I expect a local or two to venture out 100 yards or so and wet a line by this weekend. I myself. I'm never in a hurry to be the first one out there although a fresh walleye dinner would be nice. In the past we have had some great pike fishing after first ice and there's no reason to think that will not happen again. In the past we have been able to have a house or two on the lake by the 15th of Dec.

Do you already have some ice?

I have to imagine that, although the overall economy is bad, the drop in gas prices has to be good for your business. Good luck this winter.

Well its official we had our first fishermen on the lake yeaterday. Tyler spent part of the day a couple of 100 yards out fishing for pike. He said he will be going after some walleye tonight. With a low of 5 this morning and a high of 15 we should be making ice all day long. I may even have to dig out the potable and wet a line by sunday as a fresh walleye dinner would be good.

There's been a few fishermen with portables here on upper red lake since last thursday. Last I heard 4 to 6 inches of ice. I dug out the auger today and will venture out by next sunday. I have been busy getting all the houses cleaned up and ready to go.
