I can't wait, although i'm again scared that we may be staring at ice instead of open water for the 2nd year in a row

Okay folks, it's that time of year again. I am officially getting psyched! Worked on the boat this weekend... lower unit, oil change, lower unit pressure check, greased the trailer, fixed some trailer lights, bought some tackle, went out and bought some more tackle. Did I mention I bought some tackle?

Kids are all technically adults now and they would rather wakeboard hen go fishing. Oh well, more fish for me smile smiley

I have come to the conclusion that life moves way to fast. I read through this thread and realized that when my first post was made, my youngest kid was 8 years old. All the kids were still at home. I hadn't planned on going back to school yet. I was living in our second house and had to store my boat at my brother-in-law's second garage because we could only fit one car in ours. At that time, we were cat people, didn't own a cabin and tackle was only allowed with any extra money we had left over.

Now we are empty-nesters. The oldest kid is 30 and a fairly prominent attorney. I have my college degree and a much better paying job. We built a new house and I made sure the garage was big enough to fit 2 vehicles AND the boat. We now have a dog we love so much we will never go back to cats again. I guess we turned into dog people. We have our own cabin and people laugh sometimes at all the tackle I have.

Yes, life has been pretty good to me, though it seems it is much more stressful. But I found myself the last couple of weeks sitting in the boat in my garage and pining for the opener once again. I was there for a reason, though. I had installed some new electronics and was upgrading software and trying to make a small dent in the steep learning curve required for all this newfangled technology - calling up lakes, looking at contours and having a good ol' time.

But as I was sitting there, I realized that here I am again and there are some things that just don't change. I can't wait to get on the water again with my best friend hunting for some walleyes. I also realized that my brothers and the same group of friends have been doing the opener together for the past 40 years... HOLY CRAP! And I still get excited! Out on the lake, in the wind.

You see, I still got the itch. It happens every year at this time. I got the boat stuff done. Had new tires and repacked the grease on the trailer. Pulled out my go-to rods and reels and getting ready to add some new line. Went to a couple of spots and topped off the tackle. I think I am all set to go. I think perhaps there are some out there that are all set to go as well.

But after all this contemplation, excitement and nostalgia, I gotta ask you...

Are you getting the itch yet!
