Nothing gets by you SB. You are correct. I had the "date" wrong, so I fixed that. The "time" feature was separate so I thought it wouldn't change that...I was wrong.

We would be eating this guy all year long!

Sorry I haven't had time to update. I spent the 1st 4 evening in the stand. Saw nothing. My cam shows all the activity has been at night. I'm sure the full moon has something to do with it. But so does the fact that it has been a very wet summer and the bears look really well fed and ready for winter. So the bigger smart ones aren't looking to take many chances right now.

That real nice boar has pretty much moved in and took over the site. He comes in 4 times a night or so and stays for quite a while. So I let the bait run dry for 4 days to what the response would be. Well, they just stopped coming at all. So I've fired it back up and am hoping for the best during this waning moon. Sunday evening and Monday evening are likely to be my next evenings in the stand.

I haven't heard of many bears taken. A few, but most people are having the same results that I'm having....night time visits. But hunting is hunting, you just never know. The acorns aren't a problem this year. Just not that many in my area.

I have some friends that are avid bear hunters having the same issues I am. The dreaded night time bear problem. So I will be as patient as I can be. But, I have some other spots that I'm going to check on. I will fire up another bait site late in the season and see what happens. Since we are about to start losing all our under growth leaves I will be placing this site in some thick evergreens. Yes, those darn bears just love thick cover like the big bucks do.

I'm frustrated but not throwing in the towel just yet.

Well, My friend Craig saved another mans life in Duxbury after he was mauled by a wounded bear they were tracking. Wow, Craig is a cool guy and a good hunter and this guy should thank the lord he had Craig by his side when this all went down. Bear hunting is fun but people do forget at times that these animals are considered "dangerous game" for a reason!

Always be prepared when bear hunting. Glad this guy survived. I couldn't imagine the courage it takes to stab a bear 20 times before it breaks your arms.

Who wounded the Bear?

Craig and I haven't had a chance to sit down for the detailed story yet. He seemed very shaken in his interview so I'm thinking it will be a bit before he cares to open up about the details. But a few details that I do know. East Central Mn is pretty tight knit and a lot of people know these guys. The bear camp has a lot of guys in it. I've heard up to 10. They get a lot of bears every year up there. And occasionally some real big ones. And some of the guys I believe have a lot of experience bear hunting. He was bow hunting, they waited for several hours before tracking so I've got to believe that he must have been concerned about the placement of the arrow. But confident enough to be worrying about meat spoiling.

But for something like this to happen, they must not have all stayed together on the blood trail, splitting up to look for the trail in the dark is not a wise idea with bears. Staying together creates a pack like presence that likely would've pushed the bear instead of creating a charge and maul scenario. And I'm also not sure what the firearm backup situation was either. If you are all packing, and together, with lights, I'm sure it would've been controlled and handled much quicker. But who knows for sure....

But like I'm saying, I don't have all the details....but when I do, I will post them. It just could've been a fluke, and I'm not ready to throw anyone under a bus. But I've already got the message from my wife on how I'm going to make sure this doesn't happen to Alan or I. So I will find out the details. But 525 is a really big bear!
