My 1st evening is in the books. Deer are the problem. 13 of the darn things. Eating acorns. Fighting. Chasing. Chewing acorns. The place is infested! The last 2 hours were so noisy no wonder the bears are skittish. The good news is it won't take long to eat em all up with those numbers. Maybe tomorrow. I didn't hear a shot anywhere.

I was back out again last evening. Only 3 deer or so last night. So maybe the acorn feeding frenzy is starting to wind down. Who knows? But I do know this, my bait is still quiet, so I'm going to keep an eye on it, and wait to hunt it until things pick up again. Besides, my arrss is soar! 2 days in a row of 6 hours a piece....ouch!

It's always the same thing every year with the ole backside. It takes some getting used to the torturing devices we call tree stands. My neck gets a bit stiff as well. But I do get used to it...I am married ya know! Just kidding dear!

I heard from some other hunters that they are going through the exact same thing I am. Baits have been abandoned for some reason. I'm sure the acorns are the culprit. But I just checked on my number 1, and it has been opened up. So if I can swing it, I will be out tonight.

I was back at it again Wed evening. Only saw 2 deer this time. Acorns are still falling, but the pace has slowed a lot.

My bait had been hit, but the bears are acting like they are not very hungry. Just a few bites here and there. Leaving meat scrapes and bacon behind. That would never happen if they were hungry!

I knew it would be tough this year....but not this tough. The bears seem to be fat and happy without our food. Maybe things will change...maybe not.

Dave I have heard bad reports about bears not hitting baits? How goes the battle out there? I am sitting in a hotel room in Houston dreaming about your hunt! Talk to me!

I will be checking baits tomorrow, but you have heard correctly. They have been very picky and hard to even get a photo. My buddy got a pic of a smallish bear. It looked very fat and sassy. Nibbled a bit and left lots of food behind.

It's been the same at my bait as well. Another buddy had to shovel his driveway of acorns. He's never seen so many!

I was so busy over the weekend with Hay Days I hadn't been out to bait for 5 days. I will check them and set up a new trail cam. Good thing the season lasts a while.

My butcher hasn't had a bear brought in yet either. But I have heard of some being shot, just not many.....I said it would be tough....but wow!!

This Saturday is opening bow deer....choices in a bear stand.....

Went out and checked my bait and we have activity again. I put out the new trail cam as well. So hopefully we will have some photos to share soon.

But my buddy Brandon just scheduled some time off from work to hunt this bruiser!!!! Wow!!!!

That is a nice bear! Your buddy Brandon isn't from Braham?
