As usual, it's never a turkey shoot. The 1st 2 days of hunting have been tough. The heat was brutal on thur, with not much moving. My buddy bumped off a good one at 2ish on the way into his spot, not to return either thur or fri. So hunting has started out a little tough. But patience kills more animals than anything, so we keep at it! The activity has definitely slowed down at the baits, I suspect its the acorns that are falling like rain right now that are the culprit. Either more food, or the noise that they make falling, is making the bears a little jumpy, or both. Keeping you posted!

It's been real different year to hunt. Our baits are still active. We have lots of pics, a few good bears, but no real monsters to get the juices flowing. So my motivation to be out hunting more hasn't been real high. And when I do have time to get out, the wind is been blowing too hard, raining, super hot, acorns falling like rain, lots of natural foods down here with all the rain this year, bla bla bla. But, I am going to bait today, and hunt this w/e. Sandbur is correct, it's cooled off nicely, and the bears should be on the move bigtime, now is the time to get them before the leaves begin to fall, and all the hunters fill the woods.

Well the season is over. And we didn't get one this year. The trailcam pic's always make it look like it's going to be easy...it almost never is. And it gets even worse, a guy hunting only a couple miles from me shot a big one, 500lb big one, with a bow, nice job, yes I'm jealous, there I said it!!! There are pics and a story in the local papers here in North Branch. The good news....he didn't get the real big one that roams the area. I could tell by the photo...hint hint. Anyway, there's always next year. But I might head back up to the northland next year. We will see.

It never easy and most do not understand the amount of work that goes into it! By next year you forget it all and become the anxious 12 year old again! Give em hell next year Dave!
