I tend to just wade, my old man occasionally uses his kayak or a float tube. When it comes to gear I'm certainly not an expert. I just have a low-mid st.Croix setup and it works fine for me. The Cannon river is good times, it is extremely silty in some places so be sure to watch your step. If you go though I'm certain you'll catch plenty of good fish!
One other hint... on rare occasions I have a hard time with a fly rod on the Cannon. I always bring an ultra-lite with some #0 & #1 weighted spinners ... orange. If you don't have weighted versions just put a sinker a few inches above the lure to avoid messing up the action. If you do this you will knock em dead!
