I have no problems with this law. Actually, I assumed it was part of the "no transporting water" law. This law will help slow down the spread of invasive species. Not the answer, but it'll help slow it. I always used to leave my dinner fish in my livewell with some lake water, just so they were flopping during cleaning time. This prevented the acids attacking the meat. Last couple years, I've been draining at the landing and stopping at the nearest station to buy bags of ice. I then put the ice in the livewell and leave the empty bags in it(just so I have some evidence that it isn't lake water). I've always pulled my plug anyway, so nothing different for me, but this is very good info. for those who haven't.

Domino Dave, just think of that $250 ticket and I'm sure you'll get that plug out real quick! lol. Good luck and have a great 4th!

OK, I really do like the law. But I had to go fishing yesterday anyway. So I rolled the dice and went to the big pond. I get there and the DNR is waiting at the launch. Invasive species inspection!!! And they never said a thing about the plug!!! No ticket. Have a nice day. And we fished for a few hours, brought home a bunch, and had to through a bunch back, and did have a nice day.

Here is the plug situaton. It's never been out in 16 years. The plug is the standard plug, put in from the inside of the boat, I have the arm down, in the removable position, but it won't budge. The bolt on the outside of the plug, that sticks out of the hole, for adjusting how snug the plug fits, is now broke off. I figured that if I loosened it a bit, it might help, and the bolt was fused with the nut and broke off. The motor is in the way, so I can't get a real good smack with a hammer to pop it loose. On the inside, I have a floor that's carpeted, with a small square access hole. No options here.

As I see it now, my options are as follows:
1. Take the 40hpr off to I can pound on it hard. And use a drill.
2. Use a small drill bit and drill a lot of small holes around the
edge of the plug itself, not the aluminum hull. But once I start,
I have to finish, because my plug will be comprimised.
3. Somebody else have a better idea? Please?

I was able to finally get my plug out. I only had to drill one hole, and things loosened up nicely. Yeah. No more anxiety about going boating.

I'm glad to see you got that thing out. I was wondering if anyone was going to offer help as I was reading through the posts. I had that problem once myself. Got it out the same way. I will NEVER put the plug in that way again.
As far as the new law goes, I think regulation will get tougher in the future. I am so disappointed when I see a boater or Fisherman that just doesn't care about spreading the bad weeds and animals around the lakes that I live by.
I am glad to see the DNR has some people posted around various landings. The ones I have met are pretty young and still in training.
You know for every one that's busted for a violation, there are many that get away with it.
I'm going to cut this short before it becomes a rant.
Let's all be sure to watch the guy next to you at the landing and be sure they follow procedure to prevent the spreading of Milfoil and Mussels.
