I took a look at boulder lake, whew! thats got a lot to it. I would probably have to have someone hold my hand there. I'm willing to try it though. also might want to wait until i can drive on it.

Tex, Keep up the reports on our local lakes. Im in Proctor and cant wait to get out. Would like 4 inches to walk on. Fish Lake would be my first choice because of the short walk. thanks!! cool smiley

I haven't fished Rice in years and it was only in the summer.

When in a boat you launch and go to the right, thats also where you will see the tire tracks in the winter. I believe the left side is impassable, atleast in a boat.

Mostly what I hear about Rice in the winter is for pike but there are walleye to be had as well. In the summer I would fish tight up against the rock reefs on the back side of the island from the launch, there are also other rock reefs, dead wood, and weed lines you can try.

Here is the DNR map of the lake. The boat launch is also where the dam is located on the NE corner of the lake.

Be careful around the launch and dam as always.

to all those who are interested, I was at the boat ramp on rice lake dam rd today and the ice there is 3 to 4 inches thick. it took me jumping to get it to crack. I'll be back tonight ready to fish.

Good luck and be careful. I'm sure the ice in that little bay is much thicker then it is once you get around the island.
