Thanks for having me, hope you guys have good luck, I was talking to the game regitration lady and she said that our group were about the only guys registering bears, I think it has alot to do with the moon cycle. We also scouted for months prior to season and put in over 100hours each running bait and such, led to some 24 hour days when we had to work overtime, but I think consistance paid off, not so sure I want to run so many baits in the future.

I rebait every day at mid-day. I originally used popcorn and beef scrap but they showed a tendancy to prefer sweets so I started using gummy bears and pastery and whatever candy I could dig up cheap and consistancy got better. We had almost 20 baits combined and only 7 became active and of those only 5 were consistant during the season, I've been talking to others and it seems not much is coming in now, I've been told many times by old timers that if you don't get them within the 1st 2 weeks you aren't going to get them, also if the acorns fall it is over. I've seen alot of scat lately with wheat in it, you'll have a hard time competing with that.

I've always believed that you have to get your bear before the grouse hunters hit the woods, which goes in line with the first couple of weeks. The lull in activity I believe to be that the bears are growing their winter coats right now and are just less active until cooler weather moves in. Plus they are putting on extra fat, thanks to us, that helps insulate them that much more. The later you can get a bear the better the coat. I still didn't catch what part of the state you are in. If everyday, I assume you are relatively close and not as far north as I am. I have no grain or crops in my area. The northern 1/3 of the state has had a lot of rain this summer, creating alot of natural foods to compete with.
