Its killing me this year to look at my pics from last year knowing that I won't be going to the BWCA this year.
I do have a camping/fishing trip planned for this weekend though, and I get to go to Spain for 2 weeks a the end of the month so I guess that will have to do. Spain will be cool but I bet I can't go catch a bunch of Smallies over there.

It's killing me too! I have always put in on the Kawishiway river just below lake 1.I've spent considerable time in the Insula/Alice area & little Gabro that is up the river. The put in is just out of Ely.
After 4 hours of paddling there is not a soul to be seen. Only the loons are singing, bears growling, moose belowing& ducks quacking.I forgot my drags is screaming!!!!
I always got a kick out of the grouse drumming while you are having the morning java blast from the press.
When I close my eyes & try to picture the BWCAW this is what I see.

If you listen, you can almost here the loons. An osprey is perched above in an old dead pine hunting for his next meal.Looking down to the end of the water stands a full grown bull moose. The golden eyes are flushing as you paddle by. Yes I miss the absolute solitude.
There is no place I know like it. You can drink the water that you paddle through,no chlorine .It is a place made for our souls I think.

Every point you round leads to another lake .1 after another after another ect....
Sometimes you have to go overland called portaging.I think a rod is the lenght of a 16' canoe. The portages are rated by rods. Most of them are 20-40 rods. Some will get into the hundreds. The park service has made camp sites that have a firepit& grate & a latrine.
You can not stay anywhere else. No motors are allowed either. There are maps with the sites listed.
When I put in for a week ,it only takes about 3-4 hours and you do not see hardley a soul. Everyonce in a while you might see a group scoot by ,but not very often. The day trippers only go in so far before they have to turn around and back out.Sometimes we are on the move every day sometimes we just head for a lake & spend all of our time in that vacinity.
