If my kid was using my boat to do this, my kid would pay for my boat if it got taken...

A few things
1. Webdude--I know this thread probably has left the scope of the intent of the site. That being said, the honest discussion of how we need to responsibly handle our resources, and deal with violations to that, would seem to be helpful. Thanks and "kudos" for allowing that to happen on your site. Very refreshing.

2. Hammer Time--your point is well taken that the penalty should fit the one committing the offense. In answer to your question, if my boys were to do this they can bank on the fact that the fines and replacement of the gear is coming from them. That may mean they walk or mooch rides with friends for a year or two because they have to sell a vehicle and work LOTS of extra, after school and weekend jobs to pay their debt. But at the end I will have instilled in them the knowledge that they need to stand up, have some guts, and take responsibility for the actions they take part in. REALLY TOUGH TO DO as a parent, after all-you are going to really tick your kids off- but I much prefer to teach them this lesson now as kids than to let it slide and let them grow into adults thinking everyone owes them something and always have them looking to get their mistakes taken care of by their parents (the state, fed goverment, grandma, Jerry Springer, etc., etc....). The parent who follows this logic will certainly have given a life lesson beyond valuation to their kids.

3. The severity of penalties suggested were weighed carefully to the ones committing the infractions. These were not kids that did this. the story stated..."Charged with gross misdemeanor for over limit of sunfish were Darold D. Strine, 56, Roger M. Hamilton, 65, and Thomas N. Price, 55, all from Lone Rock, Wis., and Richard L. McCollough, 54, of Spring Green, Wis...." These were grandparents !

4. Thanks for the thought provoking ideas. I appreciate the ability to share in a way that let's us all consider the impact of our actions, and the potential of the actions of others. Again, kudos to webdude for facilitating that ability.

What do ya think,

Fisher

The Fisher,

You are very eloquent in your thoughts and obviously very passionate on this subject. I agree with you 100%.

As for Hammer Time, I think he is yanking your chain a bit. I have fished with the guy quite a bit and I know he is a fairly upright guy who does not take advantage of the resources we currently have. He may be a bit anti-government, but has always followed the regs when it comes to fishing and hunting. I think sometimes people post stuff to get a reaction but they may not necessarily disagree with others. I think that is the case here.

That's my 2 cents!

My old man used to drag two lines around all the time. Used to tick me off. He would always have a smoke lit so if somebody came by, he would just touch his line so he wouldn't get caught.

You know, we are well past the age of fishing for food and now we fish for fun. No reason to slaughter 'em. I would rather have the fun last for years then try to empty a lake of all the fish.

My 2 bucks worth...

Pretty nice stuff got taken away. Serves them right. What a bunch of idiots these people are. There's plenty for all if we keep these jerks off the water. If I see them, I report them. If you see them, you should too. What are they going to do? Eat sunnies every night for the next year?

IDIOTS!

Jail time would seem appropriate...

Fisher, I like the cut of your jib. Thank you for the sensor reply.

I was throwing my question, as it would pertain to kids as a thought provoker.
If it was kids that did the crime, maybe just caning them in the school auditorium them would be in order……Ok just kidding.

Well here you’re the government so I might be a little, but it’s your country PaPa Doc……LOL

Hammer Time, does not break the laws and regulations for the privilege to hunt and or fish in this great state. He is a true patriot of the flyover country.
