Hey webdude I asked once before,Dont think I got a answer?? Whats the home lake? Now what sonar did you get and what chip? I just switched from lowrance to bird this year.My sonar was older and the chip a 2009 without my home lake of Diamond in kandiyohi county Mn. I did own a hummingbird in the early 80 when I lived and fished in Bass clubs in So.Cal. I got a 597 ci di HD with the lakemaster chip to match the contour Pro elite CD program I have on the computer.Cant wait to get out and give er a try.BUT!!! Man its a long spring if it evencan be called spring! The shallow bay we live on isn't showing any sign of ice out!!

The home lake is Big Sandy. I didn't get a sonar, I already have a Lowrance but it did not have GPS in it. The GPS I got is a Garmin Nuvi 2505 and I added the Upper Midwest Fishing Guide. In order to fit the maps, I had to add another memory stick. I have been told it is the exact data as the LakeMaster (which presumably Garmin bought the map rights to). I also get free map updates for life. I just checked the coverage and it does have Diamond Lake in Kandiyohi County. It would be nice to have all of this rolled into a fishfinder, but the price was a bit ouf of reach for me and I would of had to replace (and rewire) my tranducer to do so. You get maps for North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa along with Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake and Lake Superior.

Here's a list of the lakes for Minnesota, if you are interested...
Minnesota Lake List
From what I have explored from my livingroom, I really like what I got. I have been on other forums and it appears that the topos are not only very accurate, but the GPS is pretty much snot on. I can't wait for some open water to check it out. As an aside, the navigation for streets, when I load that map, is excellent. I get realtime traffic reports, detours and reroutes for detours or traffic jams. Search by address, establishment, food, banks, gas, etc., will return a list that you simply touch and you get directions along with voice to navigate you to the location. The only thing misssing is navigation to that 30 inch walleye

I havent even hooked my new bird to a battery yet.Got to supplement the SSDI with some outboards I been getting ready to test in open water,To sell. Then maybe next Wed or Thurs, our 14 lund goes in the shop for a starter on the 15HP motor (Gettin old and decreptid)and wire the boat to accept it,Thats when I will fire er up,and see what its all about.I have a seperate Garmin GPS on the bigger boat.I like the stand alone GPS with the bigger screen. One of my thoughts with the bird and split screen GPS is its awful small even with a 5 inch screen. For a little 14ft boat I can handle it.I never have had a sonar unit with GPS so its a new experience.the little boat I always used a handheld.I'm anxious!

That brings up a good point. I wonder what the fishing is going to be like this year. Last time I was out was last fall and the fish looked kind of strange to me... the 'eyes are usually a golden color but they looked kind of silver. Same with the smallies. Like they were bleached out or something. I usually don't keep many, but I sure wasn't going to keep any of those.

I guess it's time to break out the old "Getting the Itch Yet" post... yeppers!
Just started to do some inventory out in the garage. Something has changed since last year... I got a place up on Mille Lacs, an hour from the home lake. I am kind of pumped about that!
