Beautiful fish. Probably would have been the new world's record. But, it was foul hooked and the guy released it without measuring it. I don't think it's going to qualify.

Can you imagine all those guys out there right now trying to catch that same fish. So they can get it done right and be in the record books! LOL Man I would be out there if I lived near there.

So. California has been a recent hotspot for big bass. From what I remember reading, they stocked a bunch of lakes over there with Fla. strain largemouth and there have been a bunch of 20+ lb. fish caught in the past few years. They don't get that big down here, the summer heat & humidity actually turn them off a little.

I'd be fishing my tail off for it too. That fish is worth millions.

At least the guy is honest on how he hooked it. Either that or his buddies made him tell the truth so they can have a chance at the big boy. That is huge!!! That lake will be a record lake shortly the way it sounds.......actually it is!!

I just saw on the news that they didn't get the record. Because he tossed it back. They had it on video and everything. But I always thought that if you fowl hooked it, it didn't matter it never could be counted as a record.

Looking at that picture, everyone is drawn to the enormous gut. But check out the eyeball on that thing! Those guys are to be commended. I just wish they would have taken measurements. It would be interesting to know the length and girth on that pig.

As far as being foul hooked and being a record. It can be recognized as a record if it was not “intentionally” foul hooked. Of course, they would have to determine if they feel intent was there or not. However, the fish would also have to meet all the state laws wherever it was caught. And in California, it’s illegal to possess a fish that was foul hooked, no matter if it was intentional or not. Even though they released it, they didn’t immediately release it, which constitutes possession. So I don’t believe it would have qualified for the world record due to it not being a legal catch in California. Because of the controversy on the “foul hooked” issue, the guys decided to not even submit it for the record.
