Hi everyone,
This is my first thread here so please bare with me. Anyways, I've been trying to land a 20lbs plus northern pike for years, but have had no success. I've caught big bass, walleyes, trout, muskie and catfish, but no pike. Most of the pike I've caught are small hammer handles. Does anyone know of any good lakes or rivers around the Metro area for pike? BTW a few tips and techniques would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Turbo_D16Z6,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Mmmmmm... The problem is that after thinking about it, I don't think I have ever fished for pike in the Metro area. I think that is wierd because I used to fish for pike all the time up in the Duluth area. BWCA too. Someone else is gonna have to help you on the local thing.

As for catching big pike, you might want to check out this thread...

I have caught my biggest pike on the big heavy pike minnows and big suckers. I am talking bait that can be up to 12" ;-) Big shiners work good too... read this story...

Sorry I can't help you on the local thing...

I'll give this a shot. Some of the lakes I have fished for pike would be...

Coon Lake - This lake may not have the sizes, but lots of quantities. South Center has some big ones.
Linwood Lake can be pretty good.
You might want to try the Mississippi. Lots of very big pike in those waters.
The Chisago chain of lakes have pike. Pick any of those. In fact there are a lot of pike lakes. Lots of pike in almost all the lakes.

If your in the Twin Cities and want to hit a "city lake" for Pike you really cant go wrong with Calhoun. I havent ever caught a 20lb Pike there but I would say about 65% of the ones we do catch are 30" or bigger which is not too shabby....we throw em' back so I know they are still there wink smiley

Also Lake Owasso north of the cities has some GIANT PIKE in it up to 46" and 25lbs+ but of course these are very rare.

20lb Pike are not that plentiful and hard to connect with on a consistant basis. They go real deep in the summer months.
