Well, if you have been visiting this forum for a while, you know that about every 6 months or so, I post statistics on how the site is doing. I do this because I feel that we are all a team here and you people deserve to know some of the information that pertains to this site. By the way, this site will be celebrating a birthday on February 26. That's Right!!! We will be 2 years old. And considering how young the site is... Well... it appears we are doing great! If this stuff bores you... just pretend this post isn't here. :-)

Don't know where to start so I will just dig in!

In January, which was our busiest month ever, we broke the 40,000 visits per month mark! Yippee Skippee!! This is UNIQUE visits, folks! We also have a new milestone in page views at 120,000. What this means is that we had 40,000 people on the site last month and they looked at 120,000 pages. Not bad... not bad! The number of pages that people are viewing is down, though. It shows that people are visiting 4.85 pages per visit. mmmm?!?!?! People are staying on the pages a little longer though. It shows that people are spending 40 seconds per page and averaging 3 minutes and 17 seconds per visit. Not bad. 29.85% of all visits were referred by a search engine, 14.21% were referred by another site, and 55.94% were not referred. What this means is that 55.94% of the visitors either filled in the site in the browser address bar or bookmarked the site. This is Good. It means the popularity is growing!

So what are the most popular pages you ask? Well, I thought you would never ask!
Here are the top 5...

1. /minnesota-fishing-forum.taf
2. /minnesotafishingpictures.taf
3. /minnesota-fishing-forum-want-ads.taf
4. /fishingprofile.taf
5. /minnesota-fishing.taf

Fishing Profile Page???? I find that extremely interesting. A lot of people checking out user profiles! Sniffing for email addresses perhaps?!?!!? mmmmm... you might want to hide that ;-)

On the search engine front, Google beat out MSN handily. I thought MSN was going to be the new top dog, but Google made a good comeback.

Ranking is pretty much the same as it has always been. On Google, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #4. Minnesota Fishing Forum we are at #2. Not bad... Gonna be hard to knock off the ones above us. Especially the Minnesota DNR. But what the heck! I got nothing to lose.

On MSN, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #5 - a slight improvement. Minnesota Fishing Forum, we are STILL #1, Yippee Skippee! Not bad at all.

On Yahoo, Minnesota Fishing is placing us at #9 - a slight drop. Minnesota Fishing Forum, we got the #2 AND #3 spot. Used to be #1 and #2 but we got beat out by none other then FishingMinnesota.com... oh well, back to work for me!!!!

And now for some bizarre stuff. Some of the phrases being used to find us. Here is a list of the top 10...

1. lake winnibigosh 3.95%
2. minnesota fishing forum 3.90%
3. minnesota sportsman show 2.83%
4. minnesota fishing 2.51%
5. winnibigosh 2.35%
6. minnesota sportsmans show 1.81%
7. zercom lcf 1.44%
8. mn fishing forum 1.33%
9. minnesota fishing forums 1.33%
10. minnesota fishing reports 1.17%

mmmm.... Dontchya find this stuff interesting! I do (of course my wife calls me a geek). mmm... a lot of people searching for lake winnibigosh. Is that a popular lake?!?!?!

Now for referrals from other web sites. A BIG THANK YOU!!!! These are people who were at another site and clicked a link to get here. Here are the top 5...

1. www.lakesuperiorfishing.com 4.97%
2. www.in-depthangling.com 4.92%
3. www.lakeeriecharterfishing.com 4.61%
4. www.baddoglures.com 2.82%
5. www.jamminjigs.com 2.59%

I appreciate the clicks folks and you people reading this should check out these sites.

Anyway, that's it for now. Not bad for a site that is slightly less then 2 years old! The birthday for the site is February 26, 2004. That is the first day we went live. I would like to thank everyone for their support. If anyone has any questions, you can post them here.

One question on the math.....

"What this means is that we had 40,000 people on the site last month and they looked at 120,000 pages. Not bad... not bad! The number of pages that people are viewing is down, though. It shows that people are visiting 4.85 pages per visit. mmmm?!?!?!"

if 40,000 people are viewing 4.85 pages per visit.. that would amount to 194,000 pages viewed which is greater than 120,000?

120,000 page views is pages loaded totally. This means that the person waited for the whole page to load before going to somewhere else on the site.

194,000 pages viewed would be all pages whether fully loaded or not. This is an abberation in the stat program I have. If you went to the home page and clicked on the forums before the home page was fully loaded, it would count that as a visit and added to the percentage of the users visit, but would not count as a total download of a page. It would be a fractional download. Thus, of the 2 pages the user visited, it would count 2 pages for the user yet it might count 1.5 total pages visited. mmmmm

I wonder if I can correct that.

thanks for the clarification on the math smile smiley it COULD mean that the people who aren't loading FULL pages are on dialup and coming right to the forums maybe? Do you have a count on connection speed of the visitors, say, how many come from dialup and how many are broadband(dsl(eww) or better?)

Just wondering.. no big deal if ya don't have numbers like that. I've noticed around the Cloquet area that more people are going with DSL than cable and I'm glad they are.. it keeps MY cable connection nice and strong smile smiley no competition at all in this neighborhood wink smiley
