Sorry to bother again with this question but my map is recreational lakes with fishing hotspots. I have found a lot of good information about it with a ton of satisfied users. I just wonder why mine is so far off. It would be different if it was close but it is between 100-300 yards off. What setting should I have the datum on and so on and so forth maybe that could be my problem. I am on hold from garmin right now and have been waitin for about 45 minutes and it pisses me right off.

have you tried talking to someone at the store where you purchased the GPS. If you can find the right person at Gander Mountain they can sometimes be hlepful. Watch out for the wrong person though. I have had some lousy customer service at the Gander in Lakeville, nothing is ever the right price. Everytime I go in I need to correct the cashier as to what the listed price was.

The maps are extremely off on a number of lake's there are many dissatisfied customers like you. There is nothing wrong with your unit.

If you want the most accurate Lake mapping available you will need to get a unit that can use the LakeMaster Minnesota software/chips or Navionics Map software/chips, I know your unit does not except the chips but you may be able to download good software "not Hotmaps" to the unit.

I have the Lowrance I-Finder with the LakeMaster Minnesota Chip it's extremely accurate and on Mille Lacs this weekend was accurate down to the FOOT.

Thanks again pierbridge! I did find out that my buddy runs the old hotspots map in his boat as well as his handheld. He has not had them on mille lacs or bemidje (where mine is off) but rainy, whitefish, low, vermillion are all on the nuts. I am gonna take his handheld and mine to mille lacs this weekend and check the difference.

i dont know how much this will help but i bought a "mille lacs walleye whiffer map" from tuts bait on the south end of the lake. the map came with a smaller plastic grid sheet you lay on top of your map. it gets your co-ordinates within feet of the spot you want. i have the cheapest garmin e-trex and i sit home in my garage and program spots on the lake before i get there and it hasnt failed me yet. it works on some other lake maps too if the gridding is the same size. good luck.

The walleye Wiffer Map is a great tool and is a must for Mille Lacs I have an older one, I hear the newer one's have more info and are more accurate.
I have not heard of the plastic grid sheet thats sounds interesting.

Thanks Gary.

Thanks Gary! Could you tell me more about this plastic grid or how it works? Does the map have the coordinates on it or do I need to use the grid to figure it out. Heading up Friday so hope to hear from someone by then.

Thanks!

The GPS coordinates are all on the map most of the structure, flats, rock piles, gravel in the lake are mapped along with most of the resorts and accesses.

It's a great map water proof and tear proof within reason.
