I recently purchased the garmin etrex legend c and downloaded the garmin recreational lakes with fishing hotspots map onto it. It seemed to me like it was on when we were at LOW but recently a couple buddies found that it was off on lake bemidji as well as mille lacs by a few hundred yards. I was wondering if anyone else uses that same program and if so have you had luck with it, or do you have the same problems as I?

Not sure what the problem is, it could be driver error, poor signal, no WAAS enabled, poor mapping, faulty unit?

I use a Lowrance portable I-Finder GPS and it accepts LakeMaster and Navionics chips which are movable fron unit to unit, so the chips also work in my boats Lowrance sonar/gps units or anyone with a compatible unit.

In a nut shell they are awseome with 1 foot contours on many lakes "mille lacs" and with Waas enabled very accurate.

Garmin has been the leader in GPS for a while now and make great products, but Lowrance has gone to the next level with this technology.

If it were me, I would return it and get the I-Finder $143, and a Lakemaster chip $99.

Good Luck.

Like i said i am new to my gps and just learning to use it. I have been told by a quite a few people that waas is worthless in northern MN. I find that hard to believe? Does anyone have any takes on that topic?

Well I did some research and it appears the Fishing Hotspots map is not real accurate in certain areas so your errors are from the mapping software "Fishing Hotspots" not the GPS unit.

It 's still a great GPS and will really help your fishing by saving your spots and getting you home if the weather or visibility diminishes which can happen quickly.

Good Luck and keep reading the manual.
