LAKE WINNIBIGOSHISH Northern pike are being taken in shallow water at the mouth of the Mississippi River. This spot has been best because the water is much clearer here than the rest of the lake. You also can expect to catch good-sized perch in this area over seven to nine feet of water. There hasn't been much of a deep water perch bite, but there are walleyes being taken off Bena Bar during the evening hours in 22 to 26 feet of water. ATVs are being used as far out as two miles this week.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
