Every few months or so, I post information on some statistics about this site. I do this because I feel that we are all a team here and you people deserve to know some of the information that pertains to this site. It seems things are really starting to take off (we are already close to the November stats and it's only December 7), and I am finding some trends that I find interesting, especially for a webmasters point of view. This stuff may bore you, so just pretend this post isn't here if it does :-)

Starting in September, we broke the 30,000 visits per month mark and have yet to go backwards. We are handling over 100,000 page views since this month too. That's pretty good considering the site is about 1 1/2 years old. These are unique visits folks. The average visitor had 7.86 page views. This is actually way up. A lot of people are coming on and clicking a lot more pages then they did in the past. People spent an average of 37 seconds viewing a page and staying on the site an average of 3.2 minutes. This is way WAY up. This good! 28.26% of all visits were referred by a search engine, 26.86% were referred by another site, and 44.88% were not referred. You know what this means? It means that over 44% of you people have bookmarked the site or have come back to visit. This is great! I Appreciate It!!!!

On the search engine front, Google and MSN have been neck and neck. I think Google is losing market share in the search engine world and with the union of AOL search with MSN, Microsoft is going to give Google a run for the money. So far in December, MSN has actually passed Google for referrals to this site. That has happened only once before. Yahoo is third at about half of what Google is doing.

Ranking is pretty good and I hope will get better. On Google, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #4. Minnesota Fishing Forum we are at #2. Not bad... Gonna be hard to knock off the ones above us. Especially the Minnesota DNR. But what the heck! I got nothing to lose.

On MSN, the phrase Minnesota Fishing is popping us up at #6. Minnesota Fishing Forum, we are at #1, Yippee Skippee! Not bad at all.

On Yahoo, Minnesota Fishing is placing us at #8. Minnesota Fishing Forum, we got the #1 AND #2 spot. Yippee Skippee again!

And now for some bizarre stuff. Some of the phrases being used to find us. Here is a list of the top 10...

1. minnesota fishing forum 3.73%
2. lake winnibigosh 2.88%
3. minnesota fishing 2.54%
4. mn fishing pals 12 2.03%
5. minnesota dnr 1.53%
6. minnesota pictures 1.19%
7. winnibigosh 1.19%
8. dnr minnesota 1.19%
9. biggest fish ever caught 1.19%
10. lake minnetonka map 1.02%

mmmm.... Dontchya find this stuff interesting! I do (of course my wife calls me a geek).

Now here is some interesting news for all of you. Referrals from other websites have been great. It is getting better all the time, especially since I started the Fishing Resources and Directory. But I want to list the top few so you all can go and check them out. I mean, they give me lots of referrals, let's see if we can give a few back...

The top referrals are from www.baddoglures.com. They are referring at least 4% of all our traffic. Thanks a lot www.baddoglures.com!

Next in referrals is www.hansonlakehideaway.com. They are at just below 4%. Thanks A Lot!

Next in line is www.justnorth.com - Thanks Guys!

and

www.jamminjigs.com - Thanks to you too!

Anyway, that's it for now. I would like to thatnk everyone for their support. If anyone has any questions, you can post them here.

p.s.

Hey WebDude

How long does it take for one of these posts to end up in the search engines? I posted some stuff a while ago and I can't find it on Google. I ended up seaching through your site search at the top of the page. I found it there.

Just wondering...

BigBite,

I can sometimes take several weeks. Sometimes as little as 2 days.

Some advice on searching Google...

If you want to search for pages that are just on this site, add site:myfishingpals to the search. In other words, search like this...

bigbite site:myfishingpals.com

That will pull up all the pages that have the term BigBite in them. If you know the subject or are trying to find something, you can search just about anything...

your subject here site:myfishingpals.com

Minnesota fishing report site:myfishingpals.com

etc.

get the idea?

By the way, I searched for BigBite and got 122 pages of stuff. Here is the search, you can check it out for yourself...

http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&c2coff=1&q=%22bigbite%22+site%3Amyfishingpals.com&btnG=Search

By the way, you other members can try it too. I always found it fascinating the way robots crawl and pick up stuff.
