Hi Webdude,
I just wanted to share this with you and the pals.

We had an experience of a lifetime, Saturday, enjoying a day on the water filming the young man that won the JustNorth 2005 Take-a-kid-fishing photo contest. Little R.J.Moore had won a guided fishing trip with professional guide, Brian Larson, on the Mississippi river Pool 2.

R.J. Moore - JustNorth 2005 Fishing Kid of the Year

His entire family drove 4 1/2 hours from Deer River, MN to attend the event. I just can't describe the feeling of watching the young man catch fish and carry on a conversation with the guide just like a real pro.

R.J.'s story, as told by his Dad, that helped him win the contest is as follows:

"July 9th, 2005 Robert John Moore “RJ” caught a 37” muskie at an amazing 39” tall and only 4 yrs old. We were fishing deer lake, north of Deer River, MN.

RJ had casted up in the weeds while bass fishing, using a zebco 33, ultralight rod and 6lb test with a 6“ power bait lizard. Soon after he began to yell, “DAD I GOT ONE, DAD I GOT ONE!!!! As usual RJ had forgot to trip the bail on his reel and almost all the line was out. Dad thought it was a weed but quickly realized it was a big fish. After 20 minutes of a very intense fight, Robert, who was standing in the middle of the boat the whole time because of the fear of being pulled in, landed his fish of a life time.

The most amazing part of the story is that after all the pictures of Robert struggling to hold up this beautiful fish, he took one look at the tape and said, “aw dad, he's not big enough. Can I help you release it?” Spoken like a true sportsman!!"

Here is some links that I thought you might enjoy:

Robb Anderson at Just North---my friend this story is worth its weight in gold. Hats off to you. As I'm sure you are aware, there are a lot of folks out there giving the sporting community a bad name and a black eye. It does a heart much good to see such a great event take place and so much positive influence as your story represents. Keep up the top notch work and many kudo's and thanks from The Fisher--I'm sure many other parents share my sentiment as well. Well done!

Good Fishing,
The Fisher
