I have a fishing trip planned for mid august on Lake Vermillion, i have never fished the lake before and was wondering if anyone had any tips or info they would like to share about the lake, baits, areas (i know its a big lake and only have a few days) we will mostly be fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass. any info would be greatly appreciate. Tight Lines!
Hey Larry, I was up there over the 4th weekend and it was kind of tough fishing. We struck out on Muskies Friday night, only caught a few bass on an outing on Saturday and blanked for Walleyes on Monday. They were on the tail end of a Mayfly hatch around Big Bay/Daisy Bay so the fish were pretty much gorging themselves on those lil buggers. While the others were golfing Sunday, I went out near Pine Island and did well on the Smallmouth on a dropshot including 3 over 3lbs and one just under 20" and 4.5lbs (my PB Smallie). The key seemed to be fishing windblown points/shorelines and deeper water (10-20") needed to be nearby. The Smallies are starting to move out of the shallow stuff as the water is warming and nearby deep water seems to be key.
