Does anyone know of a good pond, lake or river close to the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area to catch lots of bullhead catfish? I am looking to use them as bait.

Thank you WebDude!

Sand Burr, I didn't know you could buy them, but I'll pinch a penny any way I can. So sort of.

I used to see a ton of small bullhead schools on Spring Lake (Scott County), I haven't been on that lake for years so I don't know if they're still there in mass.

Hey Metalcat I am also trying to find somewhere good to catch some bullheads. I have no trouble buying them when they are available (which is almost never). Only place near by I know to get them is Penn lake. Seems to be a lot of them there, but they are all small, small, and smaller. If you find anywhere decent and are willing to share the info please let me know. Or if you just wanna talk catfish. Oh yeah almost forgot I heard that prior lake bait has a new owner who is into catfishing and would soon be stocking bullheads. Every time i have called they have not had any though so idk.

Thanks, FlattyHunter. I recently went to Powderhorn Lake, and did pretty well there. But most of the bullheads that I caught were under six inches, with the biggest being around eight. I had the best luck using a small piece of chicken liver on a slip sinker rig. They didn't seem to be really picky though, so I think whatever you would throw out would probably get bites. You also have a decent chance of catching small channel cats there (I caught one on the chicken livers).

Good Luck!
