That's the rumor and it makes a lot of sense since the Strib is selling their building and will be cash-rich and headquarters-poor, they can charge print advertisers more without the competition, consolidation is the trend and the Strib should be able to go on printing without missing a beat while they move into PP's spiffy St. Paul building.
If the alternative was both going under, a merger is preferable but the community will probably be worse off if this means fewer stories and investigations and commentaries than we'd have gotten if both papers survived.
