I just finished a big corporate inspection today. So now I can get out and get you some bear pic's and start creating some suspense! Sandburr, if you need someone to come take care of that bear for you....just say the word!!!!

Let's throw down some thoughts here about how I expect this season to go. 1st off, there will be a lot less bears taken this year. Fewer permits and a wet summer always makes things tougher. The berry crop seems to be pretty much done already, and the acorns are already falling. These might help down here in no quota land. But I expect this will hurt in the far north when they start dropping up there near the opener.

I also noticed that the bag limit is only one this year in the no-quota zone. Again, this will take a few bears off the harvested list.

Success at bear hunting usually comes to who baits the best, and can find good spots away from other hunters (Sandburr???). Of course a fair amount of nerve and control helps as well. Especially with a string and a stick!

Here's the track of a big boy that I've been hunting for the last 3 years!!! Maybe this is his year??????

I am putting in a real live food plot in the area that the bear was seen. I am also going to put the camera out. There will be a lot of activity in that area over the next couple weeks. Although on the other side of the patch is a corn field that was planted very late and I will bet is coming into milk very soon! Always a good natural attractant for a non-quota bear. Then again the night bite for walleyes is on! what to do....

You can fish for eye's for another 5 months or so!! You only get a couple of weeks for the bears. It's usually over by the grouse opener one way or another....

I have a bait station getting hit hard which is nice. But my camera is not working well, time for a new one I think. Anyone have any advise on these?

I'm still having camera issues. I have 2 identical ones and have determined that one is bad. And the other only likes certain kinds of chips. So hopefully soon. Anyway, the same station I got my bear on last year is being hit pretty hard this year as well. There seems to be lots of bears there. Hopefully, big daddy will make a mistake this year.

Anyone else out baiting?

And if so, what part of the state, and how is it going?

Happy Bear Opener everyone! My bait station was getting hit pretty hard, then the heat and acorns slowed thing down pretty good. Ok, actually stopped it all together. It's funny, we would think an acorn is an acorn right? Not to bears, when the burr oaks dropped there's, baits were doing great, then some reds starts falling, still, the baits were getting creamed! Then the white oaks started dropping and the baits dried up!!!

Picky bears...next they will want a nice bottle of wine too!

But experience tells me that they too like variety...so it's only a matter of time before they are back....and I will be waiting!!!!

I still don't have any trailcam pics because of camera issues. But here is a phone pic of my best bait!

Good luck everyone!

Not a bear. But as it gets dark every log and shadow seems to look like one. And hopefully one of those shadows starts to move and comes into my bait.
