Palaniuk's Day Two DQ'd
Without second day bag, leader falls out of tournament

I know, laws are laws; but this one is crazy. You got to feel for this kid...

“I made one cull today — just one — in Minnesota, in an area that I believed was in Wisconsin. It was only in Minnesota waters by less than 100 yards. I had 18 1/2 pounds before I made that one cull that just cost me, possibly, $100 grand and a Classic berth,” Palaniuk said."

Got to feel bad for the guy, it certainly doesn't seem intentional and it sounds like he did the honorable thing and admitted to it once rules officials pointed it out and showed him the map.

While I feel bad for the guy he is also responsible for knowing the rules and knowing what side of the border he's on. You'd think in a big money tournament like that he must be equipped with a pretty decent GPS that would have saved him $100,000 if he had just looked at it.

I don't see how MN and its laws screwed the guy though. If I get a ticket for speeding I can't blame the law, I can only blame myself for breaking it.

I'm a Minnesota bass angler and I think he took the high road, and admitted he err'ed.
If I was BASS, I wouldn't fish the area again, because of this stupid rule.

That's part of the issue. BASS doesn't hold Elite seriese events here because MN makes things very difficult. And yes, NoFish, rules are rules, I understand. My point is that this is an outdated law. The advancements in livewells and aerators, along with the attitudes of the pro anglers about keeping these fish safe, are nothing like they were 20, 30, years ago. These guys aren't soaking worms and gut hooking bass. They are not nailing a 30lb bag of fish to a 2x4. They are serious about safety and conservation. They do a much beter job than our out of date no cull rule.

Ya....lots of stuff on that boat. I hinder back to the early 70's when I got serious about bass fishing. Those Lowrance flashers and graphs were the cats meow. The new anglers of today, have tools I never had. You still gotta spend the time on the water, learning every time out. the best part was when I helped organize the Chisago BassMasters and fished competitively. You can't beat that experience with a ton of new gadgets, no how...
