Ok,first off I finally found a site that is worth my time. Thanks guys and gals! I picked up fishing again for the first time since I was a kid and am loving every minute (well, 95% of the time anyway. I soon found out it only takes a couple inconsiderate pleasre boaters to spoil a great day in a couple passes). It took almost 2 months before I started catching largemouth on a regular basis, going out 3-4 evenings a week after work and a couple weekends each month...only to go on a month long work trip! Since I have been back at the end of August I haven't had much luck at all. I've been throwing everything under the sun at those things with no luck! Anything from buzzbaits, power worms, crankbaits, scumfrogs, poppers, you name it... What gives? Water temps have been in the mid 70's lately, so I tried tried slowing my retrieve down from the high 80 temps I was fishing before I left in July; fished sharp drop offs, weedlines, lilly pads, deeper water to about 15 ft, docks, and still I'm confused. Anyone care to give some hints to a confused Western trout/river guy (a less than average one at that). Thanks again!

MNRookie

Edit: I have been staying close to home on a couple smaller Western Burb lakes because of close location and ability to head out after work, if that helps at all.

Hey MNrookie,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

Did you say you were throwing scumfrog out there? He'll get wet!(Sorry, I had to do that. We have a user named scumfrog on the forums here.)

Anyway...

It sounds like you are talking about what is called fall pattern bass fishing. The days get shorter and the fish have moved off the shallow weed beds. This time of year you will find bass on the edges of the weeds, but in fairly deep water. Up to 18 feet! They are out there because that is where the food is and they will stay there until the food leaves. When the weeds out that deep (yes, they can grow out there), begin to die, the bass will start moving back into shallower water. A lot of this depends on how dark the water is. The darker the water, the sooner the bass will go shallow again. This is because in the darker waters, the weeds start deing out there sooner. It's pretty hard this time of year to catch quantities of bass. They are pretty spread out in these deeper waters. They will come back towards shore as the weeds die and the days get even shorter.

Hope this helps.

Alright...I have to admit it. I didn't go out tonight and use WebDude's tip like I said I was going to. I stuck with the same old thing I had been successful with back in the middle of the summer. I didn't have consistant results, but I had a couple nice ones over 3 lbs in the boat. Webdude, I'm emailing you the picture of the bigger one I caught...any way you can post it here?

Oh, by the way Scumfrog you have proven once again you are worth throwing out in the shallow weeds smile smiley
