The smelt are officially running in Duluth. They are getting them on Park Point. The rivers aren't producing yet since they are still running too hard for the smelt to get in them. I participate in a smelters forum at http://alakesuperiorfishingcharter.com/smelt.htm if you want any more information.
I was up Tuesday evening and caught about 15-20 gallons with my son. Had a nice little smelt fry at home last night! Last night everyone seems to do even better!
I think we could work something out. Maybe not 10, but definitely won't miss a few gallons. I get offers from folks to buy them, but I have a fundamental problem selling things that I have so much fun collecting. But every man has to drink "something" once in a while.... PM coming
Had the chance to finally meet Domino Dave last night for a little smelt handoff! What a great guy! I must admit that I miss the tast of smelt but forgot how much of a pain they are to clean! UG!
Classic moment of the night is when my 8 year old daughter looks at them and says "There's no way your getting me to eat a minnow!" 14 year old son walks up grabs one and chomps away without even thinking! Boys are so easy some days!
I had a great time meeting the famous Sand Burr!! And afterwards I was thinking, man he's a pretty decent looking guy. All those pic's online of him don't really do him justice...but of course he is usually competing with some awfully beautiful fish!!!! So it all made sense to me then.....
Good times SB!
