Hello Forum,
I'm Tony Holeman from the Central MS area. I will arrive in St Paul on Friday 2/1 evening. Will return home on Tuesday 2/5. I'm from Mississippi and we don't ice fish down here....lol I would love to experience it and try a half/full day of fishing on the ice. I write a blog for the state paper so our trip would be shared with my fellow Mississippians. Anyone in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area (within a hours drive or so) that would be willing to take a newbie/first timer please let me know.

Welcome, booger...

Gonna be tough without the right equipment. You're right, you'll have to find someone to take you out. The problem, as I see it, is that within an hour or so from the Cities will be tough finding a guide this late in the season. Minnetonka would be be your best bet. Might want to try Ericksons...

If you are willing to try Mille Lacs, you could probably find someone willing to share an icehouse. You do have Hunters and Chapmans that might do a half or full day. All you can do is call and find out, Maybe they could point you in the right direction.

The problem is they are all going to want you to do an overnight as most are set up for this. They usually rent space in houses that they already have set up. I'm talking nice houses with cooking and bunks, etc. Not sure on prices. Not sure you could even get into one this late as most are rented out in advance much like renting a cabin in a resort.

you would think some one with a house all ready set up could step up and take you fishing. Just a thought

The North Branch Rotary Club is having a "Rotary Plunge" at the Fish Lake Regional Park beach, in Harris, MN Sat Feb 2nd, at noon!

You could come up and learn how those crazy sweed's ice fish by hand ya know! smile smiley

It's all fun, we have a hot tub to warm up in afterwards, with heated changing trailors too, about 45 min north of the cities. Plenty of fish houses out there too. I bet someone would show you how it's done!
