New to this forum and new to Big Sandy. I'm looking for any information regarding if fishing is still impacted by the flooding this summer, general tips on where and how to fish walleye, smallmouth, largemouth, and pike on this lake.

Also, are the tullibee catch-able in summer or just dead float on the surface?

I'm probably going up this Friday for a few hours and want to make that trip productive, probably fishing the east side of the lake, Bell Horn or the main bay.

Welcome to MFP.com cjkrolak!!

DD is right. There's a few guys here who know that lake very well. Someone should be along shortly.

Plenty of fish still to be had. At this point your best bet is to troll the shoreline/Weedline with some Lindy rigs or rapalas.

what colors work best for live bait rigs and raps on this lake?

Am I better off fishing the shoreline in the main lake or Bell Horn bay?

What kind of bait is working best now?

Thanks,

Christopher

Last night I was able to pick up 2lb and 4lb slimes, and a 14" walleye near dark, all trolling raps in 5 to 10 FOW.

The only good marks I was seeing on the fish finder were deep, 25 - 40 FOW near the baitfish, but I couldn't get a strike with a bottom bouncer/leech. Have you had any luck going deep on this lake.

Any additional tips you can give me for this lake would be appreciated.

Hey cjkrolak,

Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have you aboard!

A little birdie told me the fishing is starting to pick up again. If you are going for 'eyes, take all the rulebooks and throw 'em away for this lake. Most of the fish worth mentioning that I have caught on this lake have been in under 10 feet. Find a rock or gravel hump with drop-offs and fish the top or troll around into the drops. I typically use a lime-green hook with a sinker and bounce along the bottom. I have caught some nice fish in 3 feet of water going this route. I bet you dimes to donuts that if you went out to the big lake and found a rock hump going up to 5 feet and concentrated on that, you would pick up a few. Unfortunately, a lot of the the humps on the lake are not found on the maps so you might have to do a little exploring. There are many of these spots that I think the surveyors missed... probably because they got sick of trying to map out all the structure on the lake...

Or maybe they caught a bunch of fish and didn't want to put those spots there smile smiley

Webdude, thanks for the tips, I'll try out the bumps next time I'm out there and let you know how it goes.
