Just moved back from San Diego, and looking for some good smallmouth spots. Root River in SE MN is too far to drive, although the bite has been pretty good. grin smiley Looking for a few lakes to hit, not someone's secret honeyhole. Thanks for the help.

Where are you located now?

Depending on where you are and how far you want to drive you can try the Mississippi River, pool 2 has nice smallies. Also the St. Croix is a good option. My favorite stretch in through St. Croix state park fishing from a canoe.

Other options would be Mille Lacs or many lakes up in the north and north east parts of the state.

I'm in Lino Lakes. I was hoping to check out some of the lakes within about 15 minutes from me for a short trip. I'll have to try the St. Croix though. Looks like a good day-trip.
