Still not getting out much this summer, but I did have an hour to hit one of my local ponds yesterday. They were smacking a Rage Anoconda pretty hard; but it had to sink down into the weeds first.
7" worm Tex rigged with a 3/16 Conquistador tungsten bullet weight. Outer edge of submerged weeds with a lot of alge on top. If they were't hitting on the initial drop, I'd let it stay put for as long as I could. This one hit on the second or 3rd pop.
I set it pretty hard and it made one jump out of the water; so I knew it was a good fish. Then it turned down and went straight into the weeds. I hauled in 7 lbs. of the junk. Couldn't even see the fish and thought my line was going to break several times. (Yo-Zuri hybrid is awesome stuff though.) It was like opening a Christmas present when I finally got the mass of weeds to the dock!
Thanks for the info. I've been spending most of my time slow rolling spinnerbaits lately. I'm expecting some of these crazy legs, and am excited to give them a try.
I haven't received them yet, but that's exactly what I was thinking. A white spinner bait with a willow leaf blade has been hot for me this year. The down side to white spinner baits is they also tend to attract the water wolf Bring a slime towel.
