I'm planning on doing my once-a-year trip to Mille Lacs on the 5th. It'll be a day trip so I'll leave around sun-up get up there, launch the boat, fish until I'm tired, reverse the process and go home.
My one time with a friend we launched out of the public access on the south end (Onamia?). Went out to where some boats were and tried out best only to go home without a bite.
Was wondering if that's was a good spot or should I go farther North?
Phil, go further north to the casino access. In my opinion, there is usually better options in this area. You could go straight out to many different flats that are relatively close. You could also anchor up on shallow rocks on Indian point, or deeper rocks in the middle of the bay. There are usually many boats out in this area to follow if you don't have the electronics yourself. And be willing to move if you don't see anyone catching fish, especially yourself. Work the edges of the flats, top of the edges, sides, and bottoms. No worries with your size boat, I have the same one! If the wind comes up and you don't feel like battling the waves, have a plan B for the other side of the lake. But it would take a 20+mph east wind to mess up all the options in this area. Good luck!
