The only place that I know for "big" cats from shore is downtown mpls. Yes that's what I said, downtown! Below St Anthony Main is the Father Hennipen Park or walkway that takes you down to the river. There is a spillway for the power plant right there. I would go down there once in a while in college, fish were surfacing and they looked pretty big, I was thinking they were smallies...so I got my brother and some gear and headed back down there for some fun. We casted floating rapalas and just twitched them a bit as they floated by and splash! The fish were there taking advantage of the baitfish stunned by the fall though the spillway and we figured out to catch them pretty quick! They turned out to be big cats not smallies!!! And they were a blast to catch in the fast water, they all were all like 8-12lbs... Mostly channel cats. Some were bigger and unstoppable in the fast water! We took a few home and let the rest go. That net was pretty heavy with only four in it...but loads of fun! I know it's not shakopee, but it's from shore! BTW.. we hit them hard in the evening.

We fished right under the 101 bridge in that park there, maybe gone? Big bait, heavy rig, I say 30# line, lots of patience!! Just look for bridges and bends, some good spots in chaska easy to find, and plan on fishing all night, you need to be ready for large fish, willing to put in the time to sit with the large bait, it happens, down where the Mississippi and Minnesota meet at fort smelling is a good spot also
