I love to fish out of my canoe, but I'm not really sure where to go. I live in Bloomington, and have limited free time, so I'd love to hear some recommendations of lakes I should fish, particularly ones that are paddle-friendly (i.e. limited or no motor traffic, and not super crowded).

Portages are fine, as long as they're short, since I'm usually alone with my 16' Old Town, and have to manage fishing gear as well.

Any recommendations you can offer are GREATLY appreciated!

Well, you probably already know this, but you have some great lakes where motors are not allowed right in the metro area... gas motors that is. These lakes tend to get ignored for fishing, but there can be some great fun. Lake Harriet, Nokomis, Calhoun, etc., can be good for muskies, bass, sunfish, perch, and walleyes. The following was caught a few years ago...

Not sure I would eat anything caught, but these overlooked lakes can be a blast.

LOL... I actually hadn't thought of those, but that could be fun.

The main problem, though, is that I DO like to eat much of what I catch. Any thoughts on lakes that might not be overwhelmed with lawn chemical and industrial runoff? smile smiley

Welcome to the site, JesterPoet.

You could try Fish, Weaver or Eagle out in the Maple Grove area. There are also a lot of small lakes all around the Minnetonka area that have motor restrictions. All lakes in Minneapolis have restrictions... no gas. The problem you are going to have is people. All lakes that have no restrictions get hit pretty hard.
