Lake Superior has been ice out for awhile now, and the warm weather has brought out a lot of boaters out of McQuade landing. I was out with a friend yesterday/ We found water temps to be 36 to 38 degrees. We caught an nice 8lb laker on a spoon at 20ft.. We marked a lot of baitfish but the cold and the rain forced us in early.
Great year for coho's from shore also. Seemes like the average size may be a little smaller than usual but action has been great. I've been using white looper bugs cast out on 6.2 gram Raven fm floats tipped with waxworms. A few loopers in the mix but I expect better fishing to come.
If you've got short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly. ~ Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing, 1988
