Well... believe it or not, I have fished that lake quite a bit as a kid. I grew up in that neck of the woods. If the contest is for size, I would be targeting pike, though there are some walleyes, sunnies and crappies in there. The pike can be a bit hard to find, but the average are in excess of 8 lbs. I caught the biggest northern of my life up there back in my 20's. Not sure of the length, but it was well over 16 lbs using the primitive scale I had. Could of been a lot bigger, but I was using one of those spring scales that are crap. I caught a lot of walleyes on that lake, but they were pretty small.
Good Luck and keep us informed!

Generally if you are fishing an ice tourney its more or less a crap shoot. Is this tourney all fishing predrilled holes in a designated area?
If so just try to grab a hole on the outside edge of the group and try to look at a map before hand to get an idea of the depth you will be set up in. If possible try to figure out at what depth you stop seeing weed cover on the bottom, usually its 8-12 feet depending on water clarity. If you can find that depth you might find a weed edge, and then you might find some pike or maybe some panfish.

yeah i think we will porbably be fishing for northerns cuz hopefully if we catch one we should easily be in the top 100. and yes nofish they have pre drilled holes, but im not sure exactly where they will be drilling on the lake. what kind of bait should we use for northerns? we were thinking shiners? but thanks for the info guys! can always count on you guys!

Normally for size I'd go shiner or sucker but if I were you I'd go fathead or maybe even crappie minnow. With the amount of noise from the tourney I'd bet the fish will be a little less aggressive making a smaller bait a better idea. Also with a smaller bait you also leave yourself the potential to catch crappie, perch, or gills. With the bigger bait you'd be all in on getting a pike. I think in this case you're best bet is to leave your options open.

sweet thanks nofish! i think we might varie with our baits then. one of use shiner, one crappie minnow and the other waxworms. it looks like as long as you catch a fish over 2 oz than you should win something so hopefully we do! and ill be back probably on monday with the results. Thank you again guys

so we ended up having 4 poles so on one we did a small sucker, one a crappie minnow, one a nightcrawler and the last a waxworm. we didnt get a single bite the whole time but it didnt seem like many others were getting fish either. i think they only registered 175 fish and there were 1500 contestants. the top 3 fish were suckers so thats why we used the nightcrawlers. all we needed was a fish that weighed .165 lbs and we would have been in the top 100. but couldnt do it kind of dissapointing :/
