I was out on Sunday on the north end of Big Marine. Everywhere we checked in the north bay had 4-6 inches of cloudy ice. Looks like some slush had frozen and thats what made up the top 1-2 inches of ice.
The ice wasn't harmed with yesterdays warmth but I'm not sure how an extended period of warm temps will impact the ice. Just make sure to bring a chisel and test the ice ahead of you as you walk.
By the way we didn't catch anything. Had a few flags pop on the tip ups but they would run with it for a second and then drop it. Fished the same 2 shiners all day on the tip ups and each one was grabbed 2-3 times and pulled down 3-4 feet without sustaining any damage.
Open water in the middle of Centerville but 3-4 inches around the outer edges, Peltier has a few small open water pockets after the last couple days. I was on Peltier last weekend and there was 4-5 inches, no fish but pretty good early ice.
yeah never made it out that weekend but have been to marion since then had some luck with the northerns and small pan fish other than that just staying close to home on rebecca some nice bluegills early but pretty small recently but great for the kids hope everybody is having a safe and fun season.
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
