I was topwater bass fishing on Clearwater Tuesday when a fish jumped on my frog lure. I set the hook and bang, I had a monster bass on, I thought. He started to run and I couldn't stop him at first. Then he turned and I found out why he felt so big. I had hooked a Northern about 4 inches behind the gills. I was disappointed!
On Wednesday I was fishing a ghost and bang, it must be a good one! I can foul hook another fish... Yup!I did it again.
Ouch. It took me many years to accept the fact that I will lose lures. It's still a bummer sometimes though. I got one of those Dahlberg Diving Frogs earlier this year. Crazy little baits - and the Northerns LOVE them. I've only thrown it a few times. What was your frog?
Even eminent chartered accountants are known, in their capacity as fishermen, blissfully to ignore differences between seven and ten inches, half a pound and two pounds, three fish and a dozen fish. ~ William Sherwood Fox, Silken Lines and Silver Hooks, 1954
