Hey Blackbear - WELCOME to MFP.com.
Unfortunately, no one knows when the state will resume operations.

Hey blackbear9801,
Welcome to My Fishing Pals. Glad to have yuou aboard!
How old are your kids? If they are under 16, they can fish legally without a license. Of course, you're still in a pickle, eh?
97A.451 LICENSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXEMPTIONS RELATING TO AGE. Subdivision 1.[Repealed, 1988 c 437 s 6]
Subd. 2.Residents under age 16; fishing.(a) A resident under the age of 16 years may take fish without a license.

I'm heading to Crosslake from Arizona in 10 days with the family. Cancelling the trip is not an option. If the state gov is still shut down we are still fishing despite no license. Any idea what the fine is for fishing w/o a license just in case?

According to the Strib (state paper), some resorts are taking people's money and addresses so they can mail the licenses when the Repubs finally give up. The hope is that showing the DNR their list of compliance-wannabes will allow the DNR officers to use discretion.
Seems likely to me, although I'm not paying your fine if it doesn't pan out. Good luck!

If you are from out of state I think they should use their discretion and issue a warning since odds are out of state people were not aware of the far reaching implications of the shutdown as I'm sure media in other parts of the country didn't cover it.
If you live in MN and you knew you had a trip coming I'd expect them to give you a ticket. Everyone in MN knew the shutdown was coming and everyone had plenty of time to get one. A fishing license isn't a difficult thing to get. You could have bought online, at any sporting goods store, at bait shops, many gas stations, etc.
With that said I still highly doubt you'll be ticketed. Like said above if the kids are under 16 they can fish all they want. You'll be taking a small risk but not many CO's are out actively patrolling lakes right now. Even when they are out in full force you can go a lifetime and never see one, there just aren't that many of them.

DrJP.
The Gov and the Republican leaders of the House and Senate came to a handshake agreement this afternoon. They will hash out some finer details over the next few days with the other members. The Gov will probably be calling a special session on Monday so they can all vote on it. Sounds like getting a fishing license may not be an issue by the time you get here.

I started the original question and want to thank everyone for the info. We to are coming from out of state and had we know about the shutdown we would have purchased them prior to the shutdown. We are suppose to be at our cabin on Sat so hopefully they get everything done by Wed so we can stay legal. stay safe everyone
