We went up for the morning bite Friday June 17th. Fished 7am-11am before we got blown off the lake. We were fishing the flats, using leeches on lindy rigs. Nothing complicated. We caught maybe 15 fish, and could only keep 1 perch and 1 eye. Everything was too big. That love hate thing, ya know!!! All the fish came from the flats, they were on the bottom edges, top edges, on the top middle, and off the bottom edges.
The 1st one here is a nice 26".
 ">
The 2nd is a nice 28.5"
 ">
The 3rd is of unknown length, but a good picture.
 Good luck and be safe.

Went to the big pond this morning. Looks like a large hatch just ended. And another hatch is on the way. We could see clouds of larva rising off the bottom of the flats on the fish finders.
Fishing was good however, we caught 15 walleyes, one perch, only 3 made the livewell, the others too big. Nearly all the fish were caught on leechs, long snells, colored hooks.
July 15th is when the slot was supposed to go up to 20". Does anyone know if this will happen on schedule or be delayed by the shutdown.

Can anyone verify the new slot limits on the big pond changing this weekend? Will the eyes remain on the flats for very long. just want a guess from those of you fishing there frequently.
just got back from Orr and some of the sunfish were still full of spawn. Found some 1/2 #'s in the quiet waters of the north end, but a ton of city size to sort through. A long way to go for two days of panfish activity.

The fish that are on the flats will be there basically be there until prespawn next spring. The flats have been hit pretty hard and most of the keepable fish seem to have been caught leaving a lot of big ones to be caught and recaught. Mortality is high this time of the year when the water warms up, so be kind to them. If it were me looking for a meal, i would be fishing the shallow rocks, early, cloudy, windy, late, or dark. The eater size seem to be shallow.
I still have not heard about the slot change either. 18-20" fish are almost still too big to be good eaters anyway, so I'm not all that concerned unless I'm doing a tourney up there. Good luck, they are still biting very well. Nice smallie btw, hit the south end rocks and find king kong.

It's official, the new slot 20-28 protected, goes into effect on July 27th at 12.01am! I know there is a lot of people waiting for the word, so there it is. Posted on the DNR website. The shutdown has delayed this action by 2 weeks, but it's now official.
