I was looking at a couple sites for Northern Fishing tips. One site said to use frozen Smelt. Take the Smelt and dip it in the juices then bait the hook. My question is has anyone heard of this and do you need to us only uncleaned Smelt or can you use cleaned Smelt you would find say at Cub or Rainbow. I live in the metro area so anyone knows a bait shop around the Woodbury,Oakdale,South st Paul area that sells Smelt could you please let me know.
Thanks, Scooter cool smiley

I've never used frozen smelt for northerns. I have effectively used them for catfish.
Ice fishing northerns, I use live chubs in the 5-8 inch range.
During the summer, I only use artificials.
