Napping while fishing,,,,relaxing. Caught this 40 inch northern on Grindstone Lake, Pine County, Minnesota, on Feb 8, 2011, with a rattle reel on the back of my truck. As usual for Grindstone Lake, this fish was well fed, as it had a girth of 20 1/2 inches and weighed 20 pounds, 2 ounces. It sure filled that 8 inch hole when coming out.

I don't usually keep fish this big, but the fishing line cut into it's gills and was dying, so I decided to have it mounted.

I've been fishing Grindstone Lake for a decade and noticed that because the lake has so much for the fish to eat, it is harder to catch them, but when you do, they generally are BIG. I've caught several big boys here, including some really nice smallmouth.

Picture is depicted 3 posts down.

Yes, Sand, the smelt are here for us at Grindstone. I did notice that many people give it up when it gets dark. I don't even start until it begins to get dark. The lantern light brings them up from the depths to about 3-10 feet. A lot less line to be handling. I usually bring in about 100 each time out.

Tasty little creatures, too!!

No problem, Sand,,,told ya, I'm retired. I fish, hunt, and ride motorcycles.

By the way, thanks for posting that pic for me....is there something I'm doing wrong that won't let me post other pics?
