For Android users I've been using this app called "My Tracks" and loved it! Great app for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, driving, etc.

It uses phone GPS with Google Map, it tracks and records your movements. On top of that you can insert waypoints. I use this app every time I go out ice fishing, pinpoint every ice hole drilled, tipups, directions, and hotspots.

I wish one of these gps programs like my tracks would use a topographical map that showed lake depths so that you could effectively find drop offs with your phone. Clearly it wouldn't be 100% accurate as lake depths change from year to year with rainfall and droughts etc. but it would get you in the ballpark of where you wanted to start drilling holes in the ice.

Dan, I have quite a few friends who have downloaded Navionics on their phones (Androids and iPhones) and sold their GPS units. They are super nice and seem very accurate. Plus they have a big screen and it's in color. You can use tracks, waypoints, coordinates, everything. I think the download is like $14 for our region, if I had a smart phone with internet, I wouldn't think twice about downloading that app.

I've heard great things about the Navionics app as well.

I'm waiting for the day to come when you can attach a transducer via USB to your smartphone and use it as a flasher as well.

When Navionics first came out on Android, I recall it did not include lake depths because it uses Google Maps. I could be wrong about that though. Anyone know?

I believe it does show contour lines but I haven't used it myself yet. I'm not sure if they are 1' or 5' increments though.

Has anyone used EarthNC Lite. It seems to be a similar deal but a free version. Not sure if it is at all usable or if it shows depths etc. Anyone?

I checked into Navionics and they do show depths. Another tip that's highly recommended is installing a d/c adapter to your battery because it sucks power from your handheld real fast.
